The Local Government Unit of Pilar, one of Educo Philippines’ sponsorship program areas joined the celebration of the 2024 World Day Against Child Labor on June 12, 2024, embarking with the nationwide theme “Bawat Bata, Malaya: Mithiin ng Nagkakaisang Bansa”. The Municipality of Pilar is one of the beneficiaries of the Project SAGIP (Strengthening Accountability in Governance towards Ending Child Labor by Promoting Rights and Providing Socio-Economic Support).

A noteworthy discussion about child labor took place attended by over forty parent-participants who were former beneficiaries of the Project SAGIP.

“We believe that parents must be constantly reminded to care for their children rather than asking them to work, and this activity can help them realize to raise their children responsibly,” Rosalyn Mirando, Focal Person for Chid Labor in Pilar stated.

Myra P. Mangampo, Program Officer for Project SAGIP, reminded the parents of the relevant laws and the possible consequences of letting their children be engaged in hazardous work.

After the learning session, a distribution of rice to each child labor family commenced. This initiative attempts to further promote the notion where children should never again be exposed to hazardous work.

Keeping in mind a proactive and sustainable campaign against child labor, Educo Philippines is actively pursuing a continued partnership with the Local Government Unit of Pilar towards creating child labor free community.
